Welcome! We Look Forward to Meeting You.
Sunday Mornings
|
What to Expect
On Sunday, you'll be greeted by people equipped to warmly welcome you and answer any questions you may have. Our worship service includes mostly traditional hymns and some contemporary music. Followed by a Christ-centered message by Pastor Bruce. Kids are welcome to stay in worship or go and enjoy fun activities in our children's ministry area with our certified children's ministry volunteers. There is no dress code. We invite you to come as you are. Your presence in worship is what honors God. |
Who We Are
Community and faith are two very crucial aspects of who we are. We are people from many different walks of life, but we come together as a community (because our faith unites us). Here at St. John's, our table full of food is a sight you will often see, because meals are always meant to be shared with each other. Through our community, we encourage each other to be more thoughtful in our approach to our own faith. Worship, Sunday School, and Small Groups are an important part of our journey here because they draw us closer together and closer to God. |
Our Pastor
|
Pastor Bruce's walk of fail began when he was just thirteen years old. As a young adult, he worked part-time as a youth director at Park Avenue UMC (1996) for two years. He then serves as the youth minister for Messiah United Methodist church in Shippensburg (from 1998-2004). Pastor Bruce attended & completed the Licensed Local Pastors classes via the Susquehanna Conference of the United Methodist Church in 2017. He is currently serving two congregations in Chambersburg!
Pastor Bruce Levy has not always been a pastor. Raised in Hamilton Heights, PA, he graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a BA in Science (social studies education with a concentration in economics). Pastor Bruce has also sung in a Christian group called IUP (at Inside Out, in Adams County). This is where he later met his wife (Joyce), they got married in 1983. After getting married they moved to Erie, where he taught and coached junior high school football, wrestling, and track. Later, they moved back to central PA to be closer to their family. He then taught and coached at Shippensburg High School. GO GREYHOUNDS! Bruce and Joyce have three children and enjoy spending time with their family. While traveling with their children, they have visited thirty-four of the states in the US. |
Our church started in this area around 1825. It used to be known as the "Red School House." Over the course of our history, we have had several preachers and seasons of great revival and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. The church started to reach the farmers of the community and to show that no matter how far away from the town you might be, the gospel is still important for all to hear.
Though our building is newer and the area around us is no longer farmland, we long to build deeper roots in this community. We are located as far south in Chambersburg as you can get with members from all the neighboring towns. We are a beautiful melting pot of Franklin County. As Franklin County changes, we look forward to meeting with new families, cultures, and stories that pour into this area. We stand by the foundation on why we were built. The gospel is important for all to hear, and for almost 200 years, we've worked hard to build a community where all can hear about the good news offered to us in Christ, but also have a place where they can belong! |
